Abstract

755,193. Insulation for dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 9,1954 [Nov. 18, 1953], No. 32417/54. Class 35. The separate coils in a slot of a dynamoelectric machine are separated by an expansible longitudinal insulator 11 having at its ends expansible portions 6 which are located between the end turns. Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the complete insulator having spaced centre portions 11 for positioning between the coils in the slots and crimped end portions 6 for positioning between the end turns. The centre' portions 11 are creased along a line 12 in order to give these portions a V-shaped cross-section, though a U-shaped section can also be given to them. The insulator consists of a relatively resilient material, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate so that once the centre portion 11 of the insulator is inserted in a slot it will expand to abut against the slot sides. Fig. 4 shows part of an induction motor stator core in which one phase winding is already accommodated in the slots 3 with the insulators 5 properly in place in the slots. The second phase winding is then inserted in the slots and the slots are finally closed by U- insulators.
