Abstract
1,139,771. Coils for dynamo-electric machines. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 9 March, 1966 [19 March, 1965], No. 10245/66. Heading H2A. In a method of forming a coil for an electrical machine, an insulating strip 10 is formed with cuts (19, Fig. 2, not shown), along opposed edges so as to form a number of tongues 20, the strip 10 is then wound around the core 12 of the machine with the tongues bent outwardly perpendicular to the central region of the strip, the free ends of the strip are then bonded together and the coil is wound with insulated wire 25, the ends of the tongues are then bent towards each other and secured in place by an adhesive tape 26. The completed insulated coil can be mounted between poles (27, 28, Fig. 4, not shown) of a rotor of an alternator such as for use in motor vehicles. In apparatus for forming the coil (Fig. 1, not shown), the cut strip 10 is inserted in a groove (16) and is pushed to the required shape by a slide (17). The strip 10 is then wrapped around the machine core 12 and is placed between two parts 23, 24 (Fig. 3) so that after the coil 25 has been wound, movement of these parts towards each other bends the ends of the tongues to surround the coil; the adhesive strip is then applied to secure the tongues in place.
