Abstract
1,032,345. Making coils for dynamo-electric machines. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Nov. 2, 1962 [Nov. 15, 1961], No. 40833/61. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] A stator winding for an alternator is made by winding an insulated conductor to form a single layer coil on a cylindrical former using the required number of turns plus “ turn. The coil is removed from the former and crimped, alternately inwardly a and outwardly b, along an even number of equally spaced helical lines; this spacing being greater than the axial length of the winding. The parts of the cylinder are then folded along the crimping lines, maintaining the direction of the original crimping, until the winding shown is obtained; this is subsequently pressed and varnished to obtain a rigid self-supporting cylindrical winding which may be secured to the annular laminations of the alternator stator. In a modification, the parts between crimpings a, b may be given an axial displacement to produce in the finished coil short circumferential portions, thus allowing a larger pole face to be used.
