Abstract

1278257 Coils for dynamo-electric machines BSR Ltd 13 Aug 1969 [16 Aug 1968 16 Oct 1968] 39246/68 and 49091/68 Heading H2A [Also in Divisions B8 and H1] A bobbin structure 10 for a coil former for use in electric motors or transformers, comprises two end flanges 16 and a passage 14 for the reception of a core element, one of the flanges being provided with a housing 20 which includes a U-shaped recess 19a, the bobbin structure also including a cover 30 engageable with the housing 20 to cover the recess 19a, the cover being prevented from removal in use by the presence of a core element in the passage 14. The U-shaped recess 19a accommodates one end 27 of a coil of wire on the bobbin, which end 27 is crimped to an end 26 of a power supply lead, the two ends being enclosed in a sleeve 25. The housing 20 is provided with two grooves 22 which accommodate flanges 33 on the cover to enable the cover to be slid onto the housing. The flange 16 is provided with a slit 28 adjacent the U-shaped recess 19a to enable the end 27 of the coil to pass from the coil-side of the flange to the housing-side of the flange. A U-shaped recess is preferably provided for each end of coil wire. Insulating tape 11 is wound around the coil of wire on the bobbin. In a further embodiment, a recess is provided in the flange which extends parallel to the core passage 14, this recess accommodating a thermal fuse. A further recess is provided in the housing to accommodate the pairs of ends of wires. In this case, one end of the coil wire is connected to a power supply lead, the other end of the coil wire is connected to one wire of the thermal fuse, and the other wire of the thermal fuse is connected to a second power supply lead. The bobbin is preferably moulded in one piece from a synthetic plastics material.
