Abstract
939,063. Dynamo-electric machines &c. L. R. POWER CORPORATION. Oct. 28, 1959 [Oct. 28, 1958], No. 27371/63. Divided out of 939,061. Class 35. In a machine with rotatable permanent or electromagnetic pole members and a stationary armature winding, this winding is secured by clamping rings. In the planar-air-gap, permanent-magnet machine shown, a moulded winding disc 8 is secured by clamping rings 63, 64, 65, 66 between rotating pole-members 6, 7. Various forms of stator coil are described (Figs. 9-15, not shown) and the winding disc 8 as a whole is axially adjustable by means of studs 70 passing between the end-covers. The fixing rings may have lugs projecting into the coilwindows so that the winding disc 8 may be radially tensioned (Figs. 18-25, not shown). Adjustment of the machine performance may be achieved by rotating, i.e. staggering, one of the field members with respect to the other, e.g. by the selective engagement of slots by key 78. The stator windings may include iron inserts, and eddy-current losses in the conductors are reduced by forming them of ribbons lying on edge to the flux. Instead of being planar the air-gap may be cylindrical or conical. Various arrangements of winding are described.
