Abstract
939,062. Dynamo-electric machines. L.R. POWER CORPORATION. Oct. 28, 1959 [Oct. 28, 1958], No. 27097/63. Divided out of 939,061. Class 35. In a planar-air-gap machine in which a stationary disc-shaped winding lies between rotatable permanent magnets, part or all of the winding is movable to adjust the performance of the machine. The stator coils 40 (four as shown) are moulded into a disc of insulating material, adjacent coils being separated by insulating strips 44. The disc is clamped in a frame 162, 168 (Fig. 3) having grooves 163 permitting some radial adjustment of the whole winding body. Alternatively each coil may be moved separately outward from the centre, or half the winding may be so moved and the rest remain fixed. In Fig. 6, a fixed main coil 32 and a radially movable coil 172 are arranged in the air gap. Alternatively, mutually rotatable coils are arranged side-by-side in the air-gap (Figs. 7-11, not shown) and the movable coils may be spring restrained to make the machine self-adjusting for constant output. The stator windings may incorporate magnetic inserts.
