Abstract

941,187. Dynamo-electric machines having planar air-gaps and printed circuit windings. NORMACEM. April 21, 1960 [April 30, 1959], No. 14039/60. Heading H2A. In a dynamo-electric machine having a planar air-gap between its rotor and stator, an armature assembly comprises a winding formed by a plurality of laminar conductors extending away from the rotor axis x-x in each of at least four layers axially spaced apart by insulating layers, and the conductors are so shaped and so interconnected at their respective ends that each winding turn is constituted by at least four series connected conductors grouped in pairs to form part-turns of lap and wave types. In the A.C. machine shown, the stator comprises an annular field magnet 1 fixed to an iron plate 8 on which are mounted holders 11 of brushes 11a which rub against terminal portions 23, 28 of the armature conductors, and a ring 7 carrying a self-lubricating sleeve 6 in which rotates the armature shaft 3. An insulator 2a is interposed between two insulating discs 2, 21 on whose faces the armature conductors are printed; and whilst on each disc, Figs. 3 and 4, the inner terminals 28, 23 of the respective wave and lap half turns are connected together, the outer terminals 27a, 27b on one disc 2<SP>1</SP> are connected to corresponding terminals 22a, 22b on the other disc 2 so that in each complete turn a lap turn is interposed between two wave halfturns. Higher voltages may be achieved by increasing the number of layers. In an A.C. machine, not shown, the field magnet is fixed to the rotatable shaft and is disposed axially between two armatures each fixed to a magnetic annulus. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 874,394.
