Abstract
960,879. Electric motors. E. VOELK. Sept. 16, 1960 [Sept. 18, 1959; Oct. 22, 1959], No. 31899/60. Heading H2A. An electric motor has pole packs 21 spaced round the periphery of a carrier body 17, made of insulating material, and cranked outwards at both ends to form end sections 23 which cooperate with permanent magnet 1, 1<SP>11</SP>. The radially extending portion of the pole plate is located in slots cut in flanges 19 of the carrier body and an exciting coil 7 is wound around the centre portion 22 of the pole packs. The motor parts may be enclosed and retained by a cylindrical sleeve and normal bearing end caps used to support the shaft 4. If more than two magnet wheels are used the pole packs are suitably cranked to accommodate them. The pole packs may be laminated and the magnet wheels misaligned to provide a self-starting synchronous motor. In a modification a single central rotor magnet wheel co-operates with polepieces extending from two stator units one located on each side of the rotor. In this modification, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), magnetic shunts are used to complete the flux path between adjacent stator poles and are situated at the ends of the stator remote from the rotor. In a further modification the pole structure of a motor having a single magnet which is described as being produced by pressing or extruding. The machine may be used as a motor-generator.
