Abstract
394,863. Motors. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES., 1, Hofstrasse, Zug, Switzerland. Oct. 27, 1932, No. 30158. Convention date, Aug. 19. [Class 35.] Motors with unwound iron armatures.-Some of the stator poles of a synchronous motor particularly for clock driving are movable to produce an unsymmetrical pole distribution whereby the motor can be made either self-starting or non-self-starting. The stator comprises an iron core 1 having pole-pieces 2, 3 at its ends. The ends of the pieces 2, 3 are divided to form poles 4.. 11 which extend through holes in a copper ring 13. Alternate holes in the ring 13 are interrupted by slots 14 so that there is a complete copper circuit around the poles 4, 7, 8, 11 whereby a rotating field is produced when the coil 15 is energized. The rotor consists of a toothed steel disc 16 made by stamping, the teeth 17 being bent as shown in Fig. 1. Alternatively it may consist of a number of connected discs. The stator poles 8 .. 11 of the pole-piece 3 are connected to a lever 20 capable of being rocked against a spring 24; the displacement of these poles reduces the locking tendency of the stator poles on the rotor teeth so that the motor can start asychronously by reason of the production of eddy currents in the rotor. Movement of the polepiece 3 may be effected electrically.
