Abstract
419,835. Controlling motors. FLEINER, M., 5, Gempenstrasse, Basle, Switzerland. July 29, 1933, No. 21369. [Class 35.] Yokes.-The stator of a squirrel-cage motor or other machine without salient poles is formed with a gap or other region of high reluctance into or against which a movable portion is drawn when the current is switched on so as to release a brake, or operate a low voltage cut-out or a starting rheostat, a delay-action device being provided where necessary. Figs. 1 and 2 show a stator 1 formed with a gap 4 and a pivoted portion 5. To prevent the gap 4 from being short-circuited by the casing 8 the latter is separated from the stator by non-magnetic pieces 9 or may be formed with a gap 10. The member 5 may be connected to the device to be operated by a toggle, but in the form shown is provided with a cam-surface 12 operating a lever 14 to move the rotor longitudinally and thus release it from a brake-member 19. Instead of a gap the stator may be formed with a narrow portion, the flux across which may be decreased by shortcircuited windings, which may be interrupted by the movable member. To concentrate flux on the portion of the stator where the movable member is situated radial slots are formed in the stator. Arrangements with two movable members and a member sliding longitudinally are also described.
