534,994. Starting induction motors. TOWLE, E. L. N., WALSH, A., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd: Jan. 22, 1940, No. 1328. [Class 38 (iii)] In a starting arrangement for an induction motor, the stator windings 1 are connected in series with the windings of a pony motor 3 which windings are shunted by impedances such as resistances 4 of a value high compared with the standstill impedance of the pony motor but low compared with the full speed impedance of that motor. Switches 6, 7 are provided for starting the motors and subsequently short-circuiting the pony motor.
