520,102. Synchronous motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 26, 1938, No. 30978. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1937. [Class 35] A synchronous motor wherein the polyphase primary windings are connected to the source in sequence has each section of the series connected field windings permanently shunted by an impedance. In the form shown, one only of the sets of primary windings 2, 3 is energized for starting and the other is switched in at a predetermined speed and a resistor 20 or a condenser is connected across each of the series connected field windings 8. The windings 8 are connected to a discharge resistance 15 during starting and subsequently to an excitation source 16.
