Abstract

378,975. Alternating-current commutator machines. BRITISHTHOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and MAGGS, A. H., The Briars, Wellsway, Keynsham, near Bristol. May 22, 1931, No. 15219. [Class 35.] In a Schrage type motor for single-phase operation, the motor has a multiphase primary winding and a condenser for phase splitting. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the condenser C1 is connected through an autotransformer T1 in series with one phase B1. A switch S1 with the connection shown in dotted lines may be used for reversing, or a pair of slip rings may be provided for each of the windings A1, B1. The windings A1, B1 need not have the same number of turns. Fig. 2 shows a motor wound in a three-phase delta connection, but star connection may be used, and the autotransformer may be omitted. The autotransformer and condenser connection shown in Fig. 1 may also be applied to a machine wound three-phase. Specification 25358/11, [Class 35, Dynamo-electric generators &c.], is referred to.
