Feb. 25, 1931, No. 5932. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 35.] The stator of an alternating-current motor is provided with more than one winding, the connections of which are altered as 'the motor speeds up. The Figure shows the invention applied to a motor with a squirrel-cage winding 2 for starting and a winding 2<1> excited by direct current from an exciter 10 for synchronous running. The stator 1 is provided with two windings 3, 4. At starting the winding 3 is alone employed, the circuit of the winding being open. As the machine speeds up a governor 13 closes the circuit of the armature of the exciter 10 directly and of the winding 2<1> by means of a relay 12, at the same time connecting the winding 4 in parallel with the winding 3 by means of a relay 8. Other arrangements described comprise stators with two windings arranged to be employed in series, singly, or in parallel and arrangements of three and four windings with various connections. The invention is described with respect to motors with synchronizing windings as above and ordinary squirrelcage motors.
