Abstract

402,498. Alternating-current inducttion motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and ADKINS, B., 13, Fisher Avenue, Paddox, Rugby. June 17, 1932, No. 17214. [Class 35.] In a speed-controlling system for an induction motor the secondary circuit of which is connected to an alternating-current commutator machine excited wholly or in part from a frequency changer coupled to the induction motor, the main motor and exciter are combined in one machine. The primary winding of the main motor is on the rotor and the secondary stator winding 5 is connected to the commutator of the cascade machine through a compensating winding 10. The star point of the stator winding 5 is connected to a starting resistance 6. The rotor of the main motor has a winding connected to a commutator 8 and the exciting winding 11 of the cascade machine is connected between this commutator and the terminals of the cascade machine through an autotransformer 12. Speed control is effected by changing the taps on the autotransformer. In a modification, the commutator 8 has two sets of brushes between which the winding 11 is connected and speed control is obtained by adjusting these brushes. A resistance is placed in this circuit to maintain the phase angle between current and voltage.
