Abstract
247,913. Matabon, J. L., and Foucault, C. M. Feb. 17, 1925, [Convention date]. Addition to 240,158. Alternating-current commutator and induction machines.-In a system for power factor compensation of an induction motor, the exciting and compensating secondary stator coil i of the exciter machine described in the parent Specification is connected in series with the secondary coil p of the motor under compensation, a starting rheostat being included in the series circuit. The two coils are connected to the brushes j of the rotating exciting primary commutator winding of the exciter, the normal primary rotor coil g of which is connected to the mains in parallel with the primary winding o of the induction motor as in the original arrangement. At starting, the rheostat arms are placed on the dead terminals k and the switch t is closed to enable the exciter to start short-circuited. At the same time, the exciter acts as a conductor for connecting the secondary winding of the motor o, p to the starter. With the rheostat moved to the third terminal from the left-hand end the main motor runs idly as an induction machine. When the rheostat arms are on the contacts n, excitation of the principal motor is produced and by opening the switch t the exciter is excited by the coil i which produces compensation of both machines. In place of the switch t, a two-pole reversing switch may be included in two of the leads between the windings p and i.
