Alternating-current commutator and induction machines; short-circuited screens on cores. - Windings of the squirrel-cage type are provided on the stators of alternating-current commutator machines connected in cascade with asynchronous motors and on the stators of polyphase commutator motors, the rotors of which are fed from the mains, for the purpose of improving the commutation. The windings may consist of uninsulated metal wedges situated in the coil slots or in special slots in the stator, which wedges are electrically connected through the mass of the stator laminations.
