[Class 35] In the arrangement described in the parent Specification the series starting condenser 50, the parallel condenser 47 and the auxiliary winding 46 are connected to form a permanently closed mesh the starting switch 51 being so arranged that when it is closed the condenser 47 is ineffective, but when it is opened the condensers 47, 50 are in series with each other and the auxiliary winding. The following modifications are described (a) the condenser 50 may be replaced by two condensers each with its own switch; (b) the auxiliary winding may be placed between two sets of condensers, each as shown in Fig. 1, or as described under (a); (c) the auxiliary winding may be divided into two parts, each with its associated condensers; different arrangements of this form are described.
