Abstract

[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] A discharge lamp a is started by means of a trans former c, the lamp being con verted for normal operatior direct to the mains b by a switch d which shunts the transformer windings. A resistance f or resistances in series with the primary anc secondary limits the trans. former currents; a switch ir the lead to the resistance f may disconnect the transformer in the lead. A ballast resistance g is arranged between the transformer and source or transformer and lamp. Switches h may be connected with the switch d to close before it, particularly when working on a D.C. supply. The stabilizing impedance may be a resistance, inductance, condenser or combination of these ; it may also be a heater or filament to supplement the light from the lamp a.
