Abstract

Alloys, particularly for permanent magnets, of the kind consisting essentially of aluminium, nickel, and iron, with or without one or more known additions such as chromium, cobalt, copper, manganese, molybdenum, silver, tantalum, tin, titanium, tungsten, uranium, vanadium, zirconium, and silicon, contains also an addition of niobium, for example 0,25-2 per cent, the proportion being preferably not less than 10 times the expected carbon content. In making the alloy, the niobium may be introduced as a ferro-alloy containing 53 per cent of niobium or as pure metal. The alloys may be heated to 1250 DEG C., quenched in oil, reheated at 675 DEG C., and cooled in air. Specifications 431,660, 439,543, and 450,431 are referred to.
