[Class 39 (iii)] A cooling jacket 10 is arranged between the coil 2 and the crucible 4. The jacket may be subdivided longitudinally or may consist of a hollow coil of few turns. A further cooling jacket may be arranged outside the coil 2. Polyphase furnaces with helical and flat coils are described. With flat coils the cooling jacket is a tube of spiral or grid form.
