Induction furnaces.-The transformer iron is discontinuous and penetrates the charge 4 so that a part 4a of the charge surrounds angularly a part 3 of the iron path. The induction coil may surround the crucible 5, the iron path 3, or both. In the latter case the coil 6 may be in reverse relation to the coil 2. Fig. 5 shows alternative or additional coils 7, 8, 9. In a modification the lower limb of the transformer iron, including the post 3, is adjustable. In a further modification the part 3 constitutes the whole of the iron path. A two-phase furnace has two iron cores and coils, and the two secondary channels are quite separate or open into a central well.
