Abstract

Induction furnaces.-A low-frequency ironless furnace employs separate upper and lower coils B, C connected to a polyphase system. As shown they are Scott-connected to a three-phase, supply. Part or all of the lower coil may be inserted by means of the switch O, and the switch P controls the upper coil. Iron screening rings D, E are arranged between the coils and are separated by an air space or non-magnetic material. The diameter of the lower half of the crucible is reduced to separate more completely the magnetic fields. The furnace may be tipped about an axle M.
