Abstract

591,762. Heat-treating magnetic alloys. OLIVER, D. A., and JESSOP & SONS, Ltd., W. Aug. 26, 1941, No. 4505/42. Divided out of Complete Specification of 572,409. [Class 72] [Also in Group XXXV] Anisotropic permanent magnet material in which the magnetic characteristics are enhanced in different directions in parallel planar zones is produced by subjecting the material during cooling from a temperature above to one below the Curie point to magnetic fields which are concentrated along lines extending in both dimensions of all the planar zones in which the multi -directional characteristics of augmented value are to be produced. The material may be an iron-base alloy containing 13-30 per cent of cobalt, 8-20 of nickel and 5-10 of aluminium with or without up to 6 of copper or 4 of titanium or both. A cylindrical body 43 of the alloy to be treated is raised above the Curie point and is supported in heat insulating material in the central gap between four polepieces 40 connected by a frame-like yoke 41 and wound as indicated at 42 to produce alternate N and S poles at their inner faces. Specifications 463,783, [Group XXXV], and 572,409 are referred to.
