Abstract
1,014,792. Electric induction furnaces. WIENER SCHWACHSTROMWERKE G.m.b.H. March 5, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 9316/64. Heading H5H. An induction ring crucible furnace having a transformer 6, 7 has at least one closed central channel 14 passing through the transformer core or cores, which connect two parts of at least one annular channel 12 completely open at the top surrounding the core(s), the depth of the closed channel being less than that of the open channel, and inclined from an opened part of the furnace 11. An additional transformer for cold starting may be provided through the core of which the open channel passes at one point, or alternatively the transformer 6, 7 core may project beyond the furnace wall and a detachable bridge used together with reconnection of the primary windings to produce the same effect. The detachable bridge and core projection may be of greater area than the main transformer core.
