Abstract
1,014,793. Electric induction furnaces. WIENER SCHWACHSTROMWERKE G.m.b.H. March 5, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 9317/64. Heading H5H. An induction furnace having a transformer 6, 7 is provided with an additional transformer for cold starting, the core of which is openable to allow the insertion in an open channel of the crucibles of a cold starting charge forming a closed iron path through the core. Alternatively the transformer core 6, 7 may project beyond the furnace wall and a detachable bridge 17, 18 used together with reconnection of the primary windings to produce the same effect, which bridge and core projection may be of greater area than the main transformer core. A closed central channel passing through the transformer core or cores connecting two parts of the open channel may be provided.
