Abstract

[Class 39 (iii)] In a polyphase furnace with an open core 2, the hearth 1 is angular in cross - section with plane walls and a pole 3 of the core is arranged at the geometrical centre of each of the walls. A three-phase furnace is of pyramid form with bevelled pole faces. A two- or four-phase furnace is rectangular in cross-section and of cubic or pyramid form. Flat cooling boxes are arranged between the laminations of the poles.
