433,339. Electric furnaces. JUHLIN, G. A., Redscar, Moss Lane, Timperley, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. June 1, 1934, No. 16410. [Class 39 (iii)] In an electric induction furnace for melting metals, the charge is subjected to a vertical alternating magnetic flux and simultaneously to a horizontal magnetic field rotating about a vertical axis. The alternating flux is produced by a single phase winding 3 around the refractory lining 2. Vertical laminated members 4 are connected to the ends of poles 6<a> projecting inwards from a surrounding laminated yoke 6 The poles are provided with polyphase windings to produce a rotating magnetic field. Firebrick rings 5, 13 and a firebrick base 14, 15 are provided. The casing 12 is screened by the members 4, 4<a>.
