Abstract
894,511. Electric induction furances. CALAMARI, E. E. March 17, 1959 [April 14, 1958] No. 9168/59. Class 39(3) An industrial or low-frequency core-type electric induction furnace for melting any metal or alloy comprises a melting chamber G, a refractory housing 4 extending into said chamber from the bottom thereof and defining an annular channel having open portions 9 and closed portions 8, said channel constituting the secondary of an inductor the magnetic core of which has a yoke 1 relative to which the open portions 9 and closed portions 8 of said secondary channel are arranged respectively longitudinally and transversely. Cooling coils 3 wound around the yoke 1 circulate air or water and may be connected electrically to the primary coil 2 to provide additional flux linkages. The inductor part B of the furnace is attached to the upper part A by screws 6 and an annular gasket 7 of molten cement or powdered asbestos is provided between the two parts.
