893,862. Induction furnaces. WILD-BARFIELD ELECTRIC FURNACES Ltd. Aug. 26, 1958 [Sept. 4, 1957], No. 27963/57. Class 39(3) The inductor 1 of an induction furnace is mounted on and surrounds a former 2 comprising two coaxial spaced walls 4, 5, e.g. cylinders or truncated cones, which enclose an annular air space 6 and which are of non-magnetic high resistivity metal, e.g. stainless steel, split longitudinally into at least two sections connected by strips 7 of insulating material. Cooling fluid such as air may be circulated through the space 6. Insulating material 3, preferably of glass and mica, separates the inductor 1 from the former 2, and the space between the inside of the former 2 and the furnace crucible (not shown) may be filled with heat insulating material.
