Abstract
975,679. Induction furnaces. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 19, 1962 [April 25, 1961], No. 15300/62. Heading H5H. A high-frequency induction furnace includes a crucible surrounded by granular insulating material which is itself immediately surrounded by a coil formed of separate turns of metal strip, a broad face of each strip facing radially inward, and adjacent turns being arranged edge-to-edge, the space between adjacent pairs of edges being filled with ceramic material incorporating grooves for the receipt of the edges. Crucible 4 is heated by two separate turns 1 and 2 of copper strip, the gap between which is closed by ceramic ring 3, whereby alumina 5 is confined within the coil. The crucible may be of graphite, or of an oxide of aluminium, magnesium, zirconium, or titanium.
