Abstract

1,001,933. Electric induction furnaces. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 26, 1963], No. 30998/64. Heading F4B. An electric induction furnace including a rammed-up crucible 3 surrounded by a helical induction coil 2 is provided with a substantially cylindrical heat-resistant sleeve 4, between the crucible and the coil, having a progressively decreasing wall thickness from the bottom to the top of the crucible, this being achieved by keeping the external diameter of the sleeve fixed while progressively increasing the internal diameter. The sleeve 4 may be replaced by a ceramic or plastic coating, having progressively decreasing thickness from the bottom to the top of the crucible, and applied to the inside surface of the coil.
