Abstract
1427372 Induction heating coil SIEMENS AG 11 Oct 1973 [1 Feb 1973] 47430/73 Addition to 1406079 Heading H5H A pancake induction heating coil for crucible free zone melting comprises a wound section, e.g. turns 4, 5 and an annular internal insert extending towards the centre of the coil, the insert being in two separable halves 3, 7, the half 3 being permanently connected to one end of the innermost turn of the wound section, and the abutting faces of the two halves of the insert being at right angles to the plane of the coil. The coil is made of copper and/or silver, and the two halves of the insert have flanges 11, 12 of silver plated brass hard soldered thereto by means of which they are secured together by nuts and bolts 17. Cooling passages (not shown) through the insert halves have rubber seals at their facing ends to prevent leakage of coolant when the halves are united. The separable construction of the coil enables it to be readily placed about silicon rods for the production of silicon monocrystals.
