Alternating-current motors; coils and conductors.-The rotor of an induction motor comprises an outer laminated iron or steel ring 1 mounted on a solid spider 2 also of iron or steel and a number of conductors in the form of closed loops situated in slots in both the ring 1 and in the spider. The portions 7 of the conductors associated with the solid metal of the spider act as an eddy-current starting-circuit for the currents induced in the portions 6 by the windings on the stator (not shown). The rotor conductors are of substantially hair-pin shape, and, after insertion in the slots, the ends 9 are bent radially towards one another and are connected together at 10 by welding &c.
