Alternating - current induction machines; coils and conductors.- The rotor of an alternating-current induction motor has two sets of slots N, N<1> having different magnetic leakage and the winding consists of a number of short-circuited turns or turn groups W, the bar or coil sides a, b of which lie in slots belonging to different sets and located in different radial planes. At starting, the inductance of the conductors b in the lower slots limits the current but during normal operation, the main flux links all the conductors. A starting winding c of high resistance and low inductance may be provided.
