Abstract

290,311. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Dreghorn, H. Nov. 11, 1926. Alternating - current commutator machines windings.-In an alternating current mtor of the type described in Specification 25358/11 having a multiplex armature winding, the separate windings have different pitches to avoid local circulating, currents and are connected by equipotential connections located outside the magnetic circuit. In the duplex winding shown, one winding element having a slot pitch of 1-7 is connected to commutator segments 1, 3, 5 &c. and the other having a slot pitch 1-6 to intermediate segments 2, 4, 6 &c. and the backs of the coils of the former are connected to the commutator segments of the latter by connections b of small section located, for example, under the core between the rotor arms. Equalizer connections are joined to the same segments as the equipotential connections: if a full number of equalizers is employed, equipotential connections over a range of two poles only need be used. Specification 24992/07 also is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes also a single armature winding in which the backs of the coils are connected to commutator segments located between the main segments joined to the ends of the coils.
