Abstract
302,931. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Akt.-Ges. Dec. 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Exciting. - For exciting a synchronous machine, a rectifier arranged on the rotating magnet supplies continuous current to the field winding and is supplied by alternating current induced in an auxiliary winding on the rotor whereby the use of slip rings is avoided. As shown the exciting winding b is supplied from a winding d through rectifier c which is of the dry metal type comprising, for example, layers of copper and copper oxide. The winding d is inductively coupled with an auxiliary stator winding e having a number of poles differing from that of the main winding a so as to produce a field rotating at a different speed. The auxiliary rotating field may be set up by utilizing the higher harmonics of the supply voltage, which harmonics may be strengthened by placing the auxiliary stator winding e on a highly saturated iron core. The winding e may be supplied from separate mains of different frequency. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), either of the windings d, e may be on a highly saturated core. Regulating resistances may be placed in the circuits of the windings a, e, and the machine may be compounded. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
