Alternating-current motors; coils and conductors.-In a squirrel-cage induction motor, the rotor conductors AB pass axially through the core near the periphery, and are bent upon themselves, returning to the point D through slots situated between the periphery and the shaft. Shortcircuiting rings A, D are provided at one end, and the other ends B of the conductors are connected together by a high-resistance ring, such as a shrunk-on steel ring. By adjusting this resistance, any desired starting characteristic may be obtained.
