Abstract
487,385. Heating by electromagnetic induction. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET.Dec. 17, 1936, No. 34706. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1935. [Class 39 (iii)] Metal working pieces are heated locally by a furnace with a high frequency coil arranged in a recess or recesses in a laminated shell formed by projections which concentrate the flux to the part of the piece to be heated, the coil being arranged distantly from the projections to reduce penetration of the coil by the flux. In Fig. 1 a rock drill 8 is introduced into the gap between projections 5, 2 in parallel laminations housing a coil 4. The coil and recesses may be of tapered form and the laminations may be radial to form a circular furnace. In Fig. 3 the top half 42 of the coil is arranged in two lateral recesses. In a modification the turns of this top portion are arranged in a horizontal plane. In Fig. 5 two sides of a winding 44 are symmetrically arranged about the centre of a furnace open at both ends.
