[Class 89 (iii)] Relates to stapling devices of the kind having two clenching dogs 6 pivoted in a work table 1 which is pivoted at one end 2 and is supported at the other end by springs 4 and by a releasable catch 14. The catch 14 is connected by links 13, 19, biassed by a spring 15, to a sliding rod 10 having a bevelled end 16 projecting into the driver passage. When a staple has been driven so that its legs have penetrated the work, its cross-bar engages and displaces the rod 10, so that the catch 14 is swung clear of the table 1. The latter is then depressed by continued pressure of the driver, so that the dogs 6 are rocked by engagement with an abutment 7, clenching the staple legs. The catch 14 may be provided with a cam surface adapted, under the action of the spring 15, to restore the table 1 to horizontal position. The springs 4 then may be dispensed with. In a modification, Fig. 5, the rod 10 is displaced by a bell-crank lever 24 adapted to be rocked by an adjustable abutment 27 on the driver-actuating lever 28.
