Abstract

576,311. Stapling or tacking. LINSKY, B., and LINSKY, J., (trading as SPEED PRODUCTS CO.). Aug. 20, 1943, No. 13629. Convention date, April 29. [Class 89 (iii)] In order to reduce risk of fracture of structural parts and obtain even depth of driving in materials of different hardness, a stapling machine of the kind wherein a driving blade 30 is projected by a power spring 38, stop means 41 are provided to stop the downward movement of the staple driving means D when the blade is flush with the base of the device and a plunger 35 slidably supported in a hollow member 29 of the means D moves upwards to compress a shock absorbing spring 34 against an impact-distributing disc 33 and a rubber bumper or cushion 32, a float member 60 between the members 35 and 33 preventing the spring 34 from being compressed solid. The means D with blade 30 are thus resiliently interrupted several times during the driving stroke. The power spring 38 is compressed and released by downward movement of a handle H pivoted at 11 to the swingable hollow cover C, a spring pawl 13 pivoted to the lower end of a lever 10 engaged by the handle H engaging in a recess 26 in the member 29. The means D are guided in a sheet metal U-shaped sheath S and the cover C is pivoted at P to the staple magazine M. A spring 47 anchored at one end to a staple follower 45 and at the other to the cover C feeds the staples to driving position.
