Abstract

1,002,055. Stapling machines. S. E. TYSZIEWICZ. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 12, 1963], No. 31441/64. Heading B4C. A stapling machine comprises an arm 3 pivoted on a base 1 and adapted to carry staples 7 urged by a pusher 9 to a position in which a punch 8 drives the end staple against an anvil 5, the machine having a magazine 15 for additional staples mounted on the arm and movable relative thereto and means on the magazine for acting against the staples to maintain them in regular alignment. The magazine 15 is hinged to the arm 3 by means of a pin 20 passing through slots 19 formed in lugs 18 on the magazine, the latter being held in contact with the arm by ears 17 engaging with a spring clip 21; the slots may be replaced by holes. The bottom of the magazine is closed by means of a slide 22 having a handle 29 and the top is closed by means of a cap 30 acted upon by a spring 33 attached to a cover 4 hinged on the pin 20; the cover is releasably connected to the arm by a spring detent 35 engaging with a hole 36 in the arm and released by a knob. In operation, after the last staple on the arm has been used, the cover is opened and the pusher moved rearwardly by means of a knob 13. The slide 22 is withdrawn by the handle 29 so as to allow a new strip of staples to drop on to the arm and then returned to its supporting position; the cover is finally locked in its closed position. A blade 42 is provided for withdrawing the staples from a workpiece. The stapling machine may be used as a tacker or be energized by a solenoid.
