[Class 89 (iii)] A stapling device is provided with a full-stroke mechanism comprising a staple-rest 24 at the front end of the magazine 2 below the general level thereof to support the second staple while the leading staple is being driven. A device of the pliers type comprises a magazine 2 having a cover 60, a driver arm 3 having an opening 40 to provide access to the magazine, and an anvil arm 4 pivoted together by a pin 36. An operating lever 5 is pivoted at 50 to the arm 4 and has hooked ends 51 and cam surfaces 52 to engage studs 45 within the driver arm 3. A vertically slidable driver 25, having a hole 27 to receive a pin 33 on the driver arm 3, is formed with a lower shoulder 28 to drive the leading staple and an upper shoulder 30 to push the second staple down on to the staple-rest 24 and to flatten its arched cross bar whereby its legs engage under lugs 31 on the arm 2. The arm 3 is raised by a bent spring 63 which bears on the cover 60 to hold it frictionally in closed or open position. The cover 60 when retracted by a finger piece 61 withdraws the staple pusher 69 against its spiral, spring 70 by engagement of a lug 75 on the pusher with a slot 62 in the cover 60. The arm 4 is spaced from the magazine by a spring 55 which engages around the pivot pin 50. The anvil 48 may be carried by the arm 4 or by a member pivoted on the pin 50 and urged upwards by the spring 55. Specification 627,917 is referred to.
