[Class 89 (iii)] A stapling device of the pliers type comprises a magazine 2 provided with a cover plate 48, pivoted arms 3, 4 carrying a driver 37, and an anvil 67 respectively, and an operating lever 5 pivoted at 76 to the arm 4 and having a hooked end 81 and cam surface 83 engaging a stud 6 on the arm 3. For loading, the cover plate 48 is raised with the arm 3 upon disengagement of the hooked end 81, the plate 48 being slidden rearwardly by the arm 80 of the lever 5 engaging with lugs 50 thereon. A full-stroke mechanism comprises the lugs 50 on the plate 48 co-operating with notched openings 41 in the arm 3 which carries a spring-pressed pivoted pawl 57 to guide the lug 50 out of the notch 43 after the arm 3 has been fully depressed. A coil spring 25 passed around a post 27 urges a staple pusher 24 and the plate 48 forwardly. The anvil 67 is slotted whereby a staple can partly penetrate material C held against its lower face by a springy member 75 raised by a lever 77 carried by the arm 4.
