Abstract
823,065. Stapling machines. OFREX Ltd. Aug. 16, 1957 [May 16, 1956], No 11523/56. Class 89(3) In a stapling tool, the guideway down which staples are driven by means of a driving blade is defined by a removable member held by a resilient latch and formed with a recess the depth of which determines the thickness of the guideway. In a pliers type stapling tool a removable member 21, Fig. 4, received at the front end of the magazine 2, Fig. 3, is provided on one side with a rectangular recess 45 adapted to form, with the front of the magazine bar, a guideway for thicker staples, and is provided on the other side with a recess 46 having stepped side parts 47 which form, with the front of the magazine bar, a guideway for thinner staples. The centre part of the recess 46 is of the same depth as the recess 45, and the driving blade 22 is of a cross-section corresponding to the recess 46. The member 21 is held resiliently in position by a projection on the inside of the magazine engaging a recess 42 in the member, enabling the guideway to be selected at will by the user. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the rectangular and stepped recesses may be formed respectively on separate removable members 21. The stapling tool is provided with a full stroke mechanism which includes a pawl 55 carried in slots 56 in the side plates of the magazine 2, and biassed forwardly by a spring 57. A lateral projection 61, Fig. 7, on the pawl 55 co-operates with a tooth 62 carried by a plate 64 on the inner side of a housing 1 (which covers the magazine and carries the driver blade 22), in such a manner that after the housing 1 has been depressed sufficiently to cause the projection 61 to ride over the tooth 62, the tooth 62 prevents return of the housing 1 until the strike has been completed in the course of which a cam surface 65 moves the pawl 55 so that the projection 61 eventually moves clear of the edge 66 of the plate 64 to permit return movement of the housing 1.
