Abstract
587,132. Stapling. BRIGINSHAW, F. J. Aug. 31, 1944, No. 16612. [Class 89 (iii)] A stapling device comprises a base 1 having pivoted thereto at 14, two separable arms 4, 5 which carry respectively a staple driver plate 24 and a staple supporting bar 7. The arms 4, 5 are urged apart by a spring 15 but are normally held in the position shown by a spring-pressed sliding latch 20 on the upper arm 4 engaging a keeper 16 on the lower arm 5. The driver plate 24 is yieldingly mounted by pins 25 and springs 27 and is guided by lugs 31 on the lower arm. The staples are fed by a pusher plate 9 controlled by a spring 10 anchored thereto and to the pivot end of the device and passing over a guide 11 carried by spring arms 12. When the arms 4, 5 are separated, the spring 10 acts to withdraw the plate 9. In operation, the arms 4, 5 first move together against the action of a spring stud 34 and the upper arm 4 then moves further against the action of the spring 15 to drive the staple.
