Abstract

727,499. Stapling. WALKER, Ltd., T. Sept. 2, 1953 [Sept. 3, 1952], No. 22121/52. Class 89 (3). A stapling machine comprises a base 8 carrying a fixed or vertically movable anvil bar 36, and a staple-carrying arm 14 provided with a slot 19 to receive a staple 2 which is subsequently ejected therefrom by a driver 23 operated by a pivoted lever 24. The arm 14 is normally held in a vertical position by a torsion spring 18 and the lever 24 is spaced therefrom by a spring 27. The machine is operated by a hand or foot actuated rock-shaft 45 provided with a rocker arm 46 having a surface 47 which engages the rear end of the arm 14 and a cam portion 49 which subsequently engages a roller 30 on the lever 24. The anvil bar 36 is raised against springs 59 by a lever 51 which is lifted by a rib 56 on the shaft 45. A spring guide plate 43 having an opening 44 is provided. The machine is especially intended for applying staple loops to waistbands and for this purpose the base 8 may be provided with a plate 40 having an opening to receive a dumb-bell shaped back plate 3 for the loop.
