Abstract

745,458. Stapling machines. OFREX, Ltd. July 15, 1954 [July 22, 1953], No. 20386/53. Class 89 (3). In a stapling machine having a blade for driving staples down a guideway formed between the end of a staple magazine and a front plate of the machine, the end of the staple magazine constituting one side of the guideway is resiliently mounted so as to yield when a staple is driven. The staple magazine comprises a bar 11, the end portion 14 of which is resiliently mounted on the main portion, over which the staples slide, by a rod 15 and spring 17. Added support is provided by a cross-bar 21. When the blade 6 is depressed to press a staple down the guideway formed by the end of the portion 14 and a front plate 15, the edge of the staple engages a clamped surface 20 on the portion 14 so as to press that portion rearwardly an amount equal to the size of the staple. The gap between the portion 14 and the main body of the bar 11 is oblique so that staples will not fall therein as they pass along the magazine. Specification 670,475 is referred to.
