627,175. Stapling hand tools. BOSTON WIRE STITCHER CO. July 25, 1947, No. 20044. Convention date, Dec. 12, 1938. [Class 89 (iii)] A stapling device comprises a base 2 to which are pivoted at 11 an open-topped magazine 16 and an operating lever 17 carrying a driver 44. The lever 17 is movable towards the magazine 16 to drive a staple s, and movable away from the magazine to provide access thereto for loading after manual disengagement of an ear 51 on a sliding latch 50 from a lug 27 on the magazine. During loading, the pusher 60 is held retracted against the action of a spring 71 by engagement of a lug 70 thereon with an opening 29 in the magazine. A spring 47 in the lever 17, which serves to space apart the lever, magazine and base 2, engages wings 66 in the pusher to restore it to normal position upon lowering of the lever 17. The latch 50 is movable to engage an ear 52 thereon with a recess 8 in a flange 5 on the base 2 to hold the lever and magazine close to the base when the device is not in use. The pusher 60 and spring 71 are carried by a strut 30 which supports a shear plate 20 and strengthens the magazine. Lugs 25 at the forward end of the magazine prevent the staples s from upward movement.
