Abstract
497,759. Stapling. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and JAMES, C. H. June 26, 1937, No. 17837. [Class 89 (iii)] A hand stapling tool, particularly for use in the upper-conforming operation described in Specification 482,666, is provided with a fullstroke mechanism comprising a pawl 47 pivoted to the casing 1 and a shoulder 53 on the plunger 7. If the plunger makes an incomplete stroke, its shoulder is engaged by a lug 57 of the pawl. If a complete stroke is made, the head 5 of the plunger engages a finger 51 of the pawl and rocks it so that the lug 57 cannot engage the shoulder. The pawl is held in its extreme positions by a spring plunger 65. The plunger 7 is tubular and is raised by a spring 15. The nozzle, which is narrow and elongated, is formed of a block 19 carrying a magazine 29 and a block 27 to which is pivoted a deflecting plate 33 designed to bend the staple legs outwardly during driving. The block 27 is axially adjustable on the block 29 to vary the position of the deflector. The driver 3 is T-shaped and is secured to the plunger 7 by a block 14 and key 17.
